Festival No 6

This September sees the return of the popular music festival in Portmeirion.  Starting Friday 7th September and finishing on Monday 10th, this is an event not to be missed!  After last years amazing line up, it seemed difficult to beat, but it looks like they have managed to do it with a very impressive line up!

Headlining this year's festival are:  The Flaming Lips; Bloc Party and Mogwai.

The Flaming Lips are an American Rock band who formed in Oaklahoma City in 1983.  Their sound contains multi-layered psychedelic rock arrangements, whilst lyrically their composition shows elements of Space Rock. They are also well acclaimed for their elaborate live shows which feature props such as balloons, puppets, and a man-sized plastic bubble in which the front man, Wayne Coyne, traverses the audience!

Bloc Party, who took a break a couple of years ago, are back with a new line up and new music.  Their latest album is about faith  and devotion, but they say it is not a religious epiphany!  They wanted to come away from the sort of music that hits you in the face, to something which is more sensual.

Mogwai are a Glaswegian quartet who have been together for 21 years.  They have eight studio albums and four film soundtracks and compliations.  They are one of the most important groups of a fragmented but increasingly potent British musical underground.  Some of their best work was for the football biopic Zidane and for the French Tv series Les Revenants.  Their latest and best is for Before the Flood, Leonardo Di Caprio's 2016 documentary on climate change.

As you can see from the picture above, there are many acts, some well known, others not so well known, wo will be performing over the weekend.  Names like Jarvis Cocker, Rag 'n' Bone man, Sgt Pepper's Summer of Love Liverpool Philharmonic and the Bootleg Beatles, Charlotte Church, Cabbage, Goldie and Kevin Rowland from Dexy's Midnight Runners will also be performing over the weekend.

As well as there being a wide range of music, there is also all sorts of different arts and crafts as well for you to have a wander round and look at.

Don't forget to pay a visit to the Street Village Food, where over 40 of the nations finest street food operators come together to create a diverse mix of cuisine for a never ending banquet of first class food to go.  All vendors come housed in their own wooden chalet, keeping in touch with the beautiful village surroundings.

Make sure you get your tickets soon before they sell out.  It seems that Festival No.6 is getting more and more popular each year!
